Storms

Sitting at Starbucks this morning, enjoying the music over the speakers and my first cup of coffee. And the wifi they provide, of course.

Yesterday I just came down here long enough to park and sweep away to work with me another cup of delicious coffee. And there was water!! Storming all around during the night meant part of the Chesapeake Bay wandered up into my normal parking space.

But today I parked near the library and walked to the docks to enjoy these few moments of relaxation before my workday begins.

Thinking of storms, though, reminded me of a few pictures I took in my home county in the southern portion of Virginia this past weekend. I was inside the house cleaning when I heard rolling thunder in the distance. Not so fond of loud clapping thunder right overhead, but love the sound in the distance. Don’t you? So I went outside and decided to take a few pictures over the field next to our little castle. Now I will share them with you!

Summer School going on right now. Not as many midshipmen have classes in the summer, but by 0750 (7:50am as I used to call it) every morning the library is swarming with midshipmen finishing up work on the computers and printing before class starts. Then, by 0800, the room is empty:

And around the corner of the empty room’s wall to the left is our coffee bar, and if you click here: Coffee Mess you can watch a short video about the area where many midshipmen and faculty go to meet or relax. Right now there are a few faculty members back there acquiring their morning cup.

Later I met Laura in the Coffee Mess to discuss the biennial survey I was trying to complete by the end of the day for the FDLP program for government information. Remember? I mentioned the FDLP in my last post. There were a few cataloging questions, and there in lies Laura’s expertise, not mine! I arrived a little early and took a few pictures from that back corner of the library.

Getting started on road and foundation repair. I think 🙂

Took some time during my lunch break for more pictures from my office window. Here you can see the top of the Maryland state capitol building

And then there is more architecture. I love every bit of embellishment on this building!

On the way home I got caught by the drawbridge rising to let through a couple of the larger sailboats. While I waited I … well, you know … took a few more pictures!
